I had the pleasure of parasailing for the first time. What a great experience!!! It’s also an excellent way to get some awesome photos!

Photo of the Day: Pretty Positano
Legend states that the Greek god Poseidon created Positano for Pasitea (a nymph he lusted after). I have yet to visit a city/town/village in Italy that I haven’t fallen in love with (well…Naples let’s not dwell on that). During our drive along the Amalfi Coast, we stopped in Positano for lunch and were treated to this amazing view! Clearly Poseidon knew how to woo the ladies because this.place.is.awesome! So, um…Call me, Poseidon! I’m looking to move 😉
Photos of the Day: Pompeii Uncovered
Who knew Pompeii would be so freaking awesome?!?!? Certainly not my high school History teacher because he never told me the E True Hollywood Story of what this city was actually like! This place is stunning…and their civilization was actually very advanced (who knew they had cafes???)! What impressed me most was how well-preserved the city is and the interesting “fun facts” about life back then (which isn’t too different from life now).
They also had a lot of “extracurricular activities” going on. Here’s an excerpt from my original post on Pompeii:
3. Pompeii was full of freaks. Apparently, Pompeii was where the party was at. They had 80 bars and 25 brothels. With the open sewer. I am not able to get past the open sewer so let’s just address that now. It’s gonna come up…often. Anyway, the freaks did come out at night and they were doing things that Rick James couldn’t even dream of. Modern Pompeii is full of people selling erotic calendars, statues, playing cards, etc (see below). Now, I originally thought these sexual position scenes may have been their version of “art” back then. But, the guide pointed out that they posted these scenes in the bedrooms of the whorehouses as a “menu of services” (just like McDonald’s). You know I was looking to see what the “goings on” were (purely for research purposes only). You ain’t ready for that. A menu of sexual services. Seriously. After getting your drank on at one of the 80 bars then crossing and falling into the open sewer, you go over to Octavia’s and ask for a #3. Love it.
You know you want to read the other 4 fun facts about Pompeii 🙂 Planning a trip to Italy? I highly recommend you hike Mount Vesuvius then visit the spectacular remains of this interesting city. Then reward yourself with cruising down the Amalfi Coast!
Decadent Paris: Cooking Class
It has become a sort of tradition to take a cooking class when I travel abroad. Part of it is because I like to eat…the other part is a way for me to bring a little of that culture back home with me. During a previous trip to Paris, I took a baking class (which focused on croissants, pain au chocolat, pain au raisin, foccaccia, etc.). This time, I decided to take a desserts class. My absolute favorite choice for cooking classes in Paris is Cook’n with Class. The chefs are nice & knowledgable and the hands on instruction is so fun! You can book either directly thru their website or via Viator. They also have a Facebook page which features delicious season recipes from time to time!
During the Paris Desserts & Pastry class, we learned how to make creme brûlée, chocolate molten lava cake, golden bars, lemon tartes and Grand Marnier souffle. Delish!!!
Photos of the Day: Parisian Desserts
One of my favorite things about Paris are the fabulous desserts! So, during my most recent visit to this beautiful city, I decided to do a “Chocolate & Pastry Walking Tour” where we visited different sweet shops that specialize in chocolate, pastries & ice cream. I justified all the eating with the fact that at least we spent a few hours walking (even if it was just to get to the next site/shop. Ha!). What’s your favorite chocolate or pastry shop in Paris?

Photos of the Day: Camel SUV
One of the items on my bucket list was to camp out & ride a camel thru the desert…and I am so freaking excited to have accomplished that! Who needs a SUV when you’ve got a sweet ride like that? After a magnificent camping experience (which I write about here — it includes a recap of how the night turned into the Morcoccan Blair Witch Project with alleged cow-sized scorpions…seriously), we wake up and hike the sand dunes as the sun is rising. Then, come back for breakfast and ride our camels from our camp site to the edge of the desert (about 45 minutes or so). The camel I rode is actually known as a Dromedary (because it has only 1 hump). What a great experience!!! I highly recommend you try it. The camels were very gentle and the ride was pretty smooth. I felt like a little kid at Disney World…all smiles and “more, more, more!” Honestly, this is one of my all-time favorite travel experiences. Kinda like my travel world is complete…until I find something else that I absolutely must do. Happy travels, y’all!
Photos of the Day: Nomad Girls of the Sahara
During my sunrise hike over the sand dunes in the Sahara Desert, I was approached by three adorable nomad girls selling trinkets. They spoke absolutely no English, but luckily, my guide was with me and able to translate for us. I was able to find out that they are between the ages of 8 and 9 and only one of the girls attends school (she lives in the city of Merzouga with her mother but visits her father in the desert on the weekends). I was also lucky enough to visit with and interview the women of a nomad family during my camping trip. You can read the interview here. I highly recommend adding a visit to Morocco and the Sahara Desert to your bucket list! You won’t be disappointed.
Photo of the Day: Felucca Ride Down The Nile (Egypt)
While visiting Luxor (formerly known as “Thebes”…the city where pharaohs like King Tut ruled), I had the wonderful opportunity of having lunch on the famous Nile river. One of the “must do” activities in most guidebooks is to cruise down this beautiful body of water in one of the famous feluccas (a wooden boat). While I didn’t have enough time for the cruise, at least I was able to snap a picture. Has anybody taken a cruise down the Nile? If so, how was it?
Photo of the Day: Corner of Kingsway & Sardinia (London)
London is a photographer’s paradise. Love the architectural surprises that you come across while strolling around this lovely city. How cool is this?
